The "Capitata" Yew is a great multi-purpos shrub with a natural compact, dense, pyramidal growth habit. Will grow quite large if left to grow naturally, but can be kept / maintained at just about any height & width through yearly trimming. Aside from a yearly trimming if desired, this variety is extremely low maintenance. Looks great in hedges, screens, group plantings, and even foundation plantings. Does well in shade where many other evergreens struggle. Very tolerant of harsh city conditions such as dust and smoke.
Easily grown in average, medium moisture, well-drained soils in full sun to part shade. Tolerates shade and is considered to be one of the best of the needled evergreens for shady conditions. Prefers moist, sandy loams, but plants have no tolerance for wet conditions which must be avoided
