The Christmas Tree Hosta is a large and fluffy hosta. It has, heavily textured, dark green leaves with a thin yellow, streaky margin that fades to creamy white in the summer. Lavender flowers in mid summer that are followed by stunning reddish purple seed pods. Suitable also for planting in mixed containers or tubs. Hostas go completely dormant in the fall, and the dying foliage can be removed any time before mid spring. Easily divided in either spring or fall, but plants may be left alone for years.
Provide slightly acidic, evenly moist, well-drained, humusy soil. Avoid harsh sun exposures. Water deeply, regularly in first growing season to establish an extensive root system; once established, reduce frequency. Remove old, faded foliage before new leaves emerge in early spring.Pruning time: divide every 2 to 3 years in early spring.
