The Maidenhair Fern is an excellent choice for damp, shady areas or dappled sunlight. It prefers rich soil, but does well in just about any type of well-drained soil. This creeping fern has feathery fingers and spreads in clumps if not contained or divided up every few years. It is great for creating a backdrop for other shade loving perennials or left to spread as woodland ground-cover. The Maidenhair Fern comes up in the Spring and hangs out til fall.
This plant does not like to dry out. keep the ground moist and evenly watered but not soaking. Does fine in any type of well-drained soil, but thrives in rich soil that has been amended with compost.
